Founded in 2014 by Laura Fenton, a 5-time U.S. Open Champion, WTP was the world’s first amateur and professional pickleball league. After organizing over 60 events and securing national partnerships, such as Lifetime Sports. Laura passed the torch in 2024 when Grand Slam LLC, led by Sean Bollettieri, acquired the league and its assets—launching WTP into a bold new era.

WTP Powered by Grand Slam: The Vision of Sean Bollettieri

WTP’s success and expansion is fueled by Sean Bollettieri, Commissioner of World Team Pickleball and Managing Owner of Grand Slam LLC. Sean is not only one of the most influential figures in modern pickleball and tennis, but also the only individual to successfully bridge the worlds of tennis and pickleball at scale.

His legacy includes:

  • Son of Nick Bollettieri, legendary coach and founder of IMG/Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy

  • Former WTA coach and pro sports agent

WTP’s Super Bowl Spotlight

In 2025, the WTP concept made it all the way to the Super Bowl, when Michelob Ultra filmed its commercial at TTC Newport Beach. Sean played a critical role:

  • Developed the Pickletainment theme and aesthetic for the shoot

  • Supplied top talent including Parris Todd, Hunter Johnson, and extras like Alexandra Valentine

  • Custom-designed a black-and-gold glitter championship court

  • Provided branded Bollettieri Pickleball & World Team Pickleball branded apparel and S Bollettieri signature paddles for stars Willem Dafoe and Catherine O’Hara

  • Built custom courts for the commercial—including a beachfront scene and a ballroom scene, and a rooftop installation at the Jonathan Club in Downtown L.A.

Disruptor by Nature – Legacy by Design

Disruption runs deep in the Bollettieri bloodline.

From Nick Bollettieri daring to start the world’s first boarding school for tennis—pulling kids away from home to chase greatness—to Sean Bollettieri, who carried the torch with bold, game-changing moves of his own.

In 1992, Sean founded the first full-service tennis boarding academy on the West Coast, then shook up the tradition-bound country club world by launching a private tennis club that merged elite youth development with exclusive adult membership. And just when people thought he couldn’t push the envelope further—he brought pickleball into the private club scene, when no one else would.

Now? He’s doing it again.

Own a Team for the Day!

One of the most exciting aspects of WTP events is the opportunity for companies and foundations to own a team—included with every package!

Organizations can draft players from the WTP pool or even provide their own players to compete.

Players without a DUPR rating will need to attend a DUPR/WTP Training Camp to receive an official DUPR rating and WTP profile before being able to be drafted.
